Summer-Proof Your Floors: Easy LVT Care Tips from Amtico

Summer is brilliant for open doors, garden visits and that constant in-and-out with the dog. It is also the season when your floors get tested, with gritty dust, sunscreen smudges, BBQ spills and extra foot traffic.

If you have Amtico LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile), the good news is it is built for real life. With a few simple habits, you can keep it looking sharp all summer long.

Why summer can be tough on LVT

LVT is hard-wearing, but summer brings a few predictable culprits:

  • Grit and sand from parks, holidays and the garden (acts like sandpaper under shoes)

  • Sticky residues from ice creams, fizzy drinks and BBQ sauces

  • Sunscreen and oils that leave dull patches if left too long

  • More moisture from wet feet, paddling pools and sudden showers

A little prevention now saves you from deeper cleaning later.

1) Start with a “grit barrier” at the door

Most summer floor wear is not from spills, it is from tiny particles dragged in daily.

  • Put a good-quality doormat outside and inside the main entrance

  • If you have patio doors, add a low-profile mat there too

  • Encourage a quick wipe of shoes and paws before coming in

Pro Tip: A quick vacuum of entrance areas every couple of days makes a bigger difference than a big clean once a month.

2) Vacuum little and often (it is the secret weapon)

Amtico LVT is easy to maintain, but grit is the enemy of any hard floor finish.

  • Use a soft brush head on your vacuum

  • Focus on hallways, kitchen routes and patio door areas

  • Avoid stiff rotating brushes if they are too aggressive

If you prefer sweeping, use a soft broom and finish with a quick microfibre pass.

3) Mop smart, not soaking wet

LVT does not need heavy water. In fact, too much water can push dirt around and leave streaks.

  • Use a well-wrung microfibre mop

  • Stick to pH-neutral floor cleaner recommended for LVT

  • Rinse and refresh your water as soon as it looks cloudy

Pro Tip: If your floor looks clean but feels slightly tacky, it is usually leftover cleaner. A light re-mop with clean water can fix it.

4) Deal with sunscreen, oils and BBQ spills quickly

Summer mess is often oily or sugary, which can attract more dirt.

  • Blot spills straight away with a soft cloth

  • Clean with a damp microfibre cloth and a small amount of suitable cleaner

  • For stubborn marks, let the cloth sit on the area for a minute before wiping

Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads, they can dull the surface.

5) Protect your floor from furniture and summer entertaining

Extra guests, moved chairs and garden-to-kitchen traffic can add up.

  • Add felt pads to chair and table legs

  • Use protective mats under bar stools or rolling chairs

  • Lift, do not drag, heavier items when rearranging

If you are hosting often, a washable runner in high-traffic routes can be a simple win.

6) Keep it cool and consistent

Amtico LVT is stable and designed for everyday living, but it still helps to avoid extremes.

  • Use blinds or curtains to reduce direct, intense sunlight in the hottest part of the day

  • If you have underfloor heating, keep settings steady rather than spiking temperatures

7) Refresh the finish with a professional clean (when needed)

If your floor has lost a bit of its “new floor” look, it may not be damaged, it may just need a proper refresh.

A professional clean can:

  • Remove built-up residue in textured areas

  • Restore a more even finish

  • Help your floor look its best without replacement

Quick summer checklist (save this)

  • Vacuum high-traffic areas 2–3 times a week

  • Mop weekly with a well-wrung microfibre mop

  • Wipe spills immediately, especially oils and sugary drinks

  • Use mats at entrances and patio doors

  • Add felt pads to furniture
